Most of us would like to escape for a few days and travel on a cruise. But would you like to do it on a smart vessel?
Celebrity Cruises, a Royal Caribbean Cruises brand, has unveiled Celebrity Edge, a new cruise ship that was completely designed in 3-D and has all the advantages of intelligent technology designed to enhance the experience of guests traveling on this ship. Capable of accommodating 2,918 passengers, this state-of-the-art vessel will be packed with a suite of amenities and features meant to astound travelers.
First of all, the ship's cabins will be equipped with "infinite verandas" instead of balconies, offering 23 percent more living space. If you want to spend your journey in a more upscale space, perhaps a suite or a floating villa with private plunge pool will do. Each Celebrity Edge cruise ship will have six duplex villas, with direct access to one of the ship's sundecks, providing guests with Eucalyptus-treated cashmere mattresses, butler service, packing and unpacking support, Bulgari baths, and more. Suites will make up 12 percent of the total accommodations of the ship.
Other highlights include an adults-only pool enclosed by a glass-like dome called the Solarium and a rooftop garden where travelers can attend jazz concerts, morning yoga classes, dinner and movie nights. Have we mentioned the Magic Carpet? It's a suspended deck the size of a tennis court which is presented as an extension of the ship and can move between different decks, creating specialty restaurants for a selected number of guests or relaxation areas by the pool. Additionally, guests will be able to close their doors and control everything from room temperature to lighting using a mobile app that also offers a ship map and daily event schedule.
Five such ship will be build for at a cost of $1 billion (€940 million) each, with the first one scheduled to set sail for its maiden voyage on Dec. 18, 2018, with departure from Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
